Beethoven, Burns, and the Folk Song

Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

Beethoven, Burns and the Folksong is a film created for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, including a special filmed performance at Drumlanrig Castle and discussions about the material within that performance.

William Zachs – interviewed in the clip above – tells the story of a 1790s national song project by the Scottish music impresario and publisher George Thomson, who combined the works of Scotland’s Bard and Beethoven.

We used archive materials and music to support Zachs’ interview, helping viewers visualise the content in discussion.
